The trauma of disengagement: from denial to healing, part 1 of 6

The fog

You were the fog…
…the fog in the house.
Ever-present, but never there.

You took me to school.
You took me to church.
Ever-moving, but never reaching.

You cooked and sewed.
You came and went.
Ever-occupied, but never seeing.

You knitted the afghans
that kept me warm.
Ever-working, but never holding.

You asked the one question.
I gave the one answer.
Ever-repeating, but never knowing.

You told me “Be good.”
You told me “Be nice.”
Ever-expecting, but never teaching.

You said precious little.
You sat by yourself.
Ever-seen, but never felt.

You wore the badge.
You looked the part.
Ever-the-name, but never the heart.

I needed the words…
…the three little words.
Ever-surrounded, but never together.

You were the fog…
…the fog in the house.
Ever the vapor, the mist in the air.

Healing through truth and music
Peaceful Readers, I’ve found great healing in my life through the beauty and truth of God’s word and through music. I hope the truths and songs that I share at the end of each post will bless you too.

Truth from The Word: Psalm 145:18

Song for Healing: As sad as that poem is, as sad as my childhood was, the Lord has blessed me with a song that puts it all in perspective.

As I was searching for the song for this post—for this poem—I found the song and listened to it for the first time. And then I kept on listening to it. This song is just right… and so beautiful. Drink in the beauty and peace of “Draw Me Nearer” by Meredith Andrews.
